American Ninja star celebrates film’s 40th anniversary with a return to his roots
Tokyo, Japan — Hollywood action icon Michael Dudikoff, best known for his role in the cult classic American Ninja, paid a special visit to the Samurai Ninja Museum in Tokyo this week, delighting fans and museum staff alike.
Now 70, Dudikoff toured the popular attraction located in the heart of the Japanese capital, which offers an immersive journey through the world of the samurai and ninja. The museum, known for its interactive exhibits and hands-on experiences, was a fitting destination for the actor whose breakout role saw him mastering ninjutsu on screen.
Dressed in black, echoing the stealthy style of his cinematic alter ego, Dudikoff explored the museum’s collection of historic weapons, traditional costumes, and intricate woodblock prints. Among the standout exhibits were displays of blowpipes, sickles, and throwing stars—many of which mirrored the tools used by his character in the 1985 Cannon Films hit.
As part of his visit, Dudikoff took part in one of the museum’s signature activities: shuriken (throwing star) practice. He confidently stepped up to the target and launched the stars with the same precision that made American Ninja a staple of '80s action cinema.

American Ninja, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, followed Dudikoff’s character—a mysterious U.S. Army private with hidden ninjutsu training—as he takes down a dangerous arms-dealing network using ancient martial arts techniques. The film sparked a franchise and secured Dudikoff’s place among the era’s biggest action stars.
The museum visit served as both a nostalgic return and a cultural celebration for Dudikoff, whose film helped introduce Western audiences to the mystique of the ninja. With the anniversary of American Ninja marking a significant milestone, Dudikoff’s trip was a reminder of the enduring legacy of both the film and the traditions it helped bring into the global spotlight.
